I really get a kick out of drawing caricatures. The perfect combination for a good caricature is a fun subject with a lot of personality. The biggest challenge seems to be the subject that sits stiffly in the chair and talks like a ventriloquist. I try to encourage the subject to be their self. If I can't get a feel for who they really are, I find that I become way more conservative with my exaggerations. I liken it to throwing a dart into the dark and hoping there's a dartboard somewhere in the distance. But. exaggeration aside, the ultimate goal for me is capturing of the subject's true self.
The pictures you see here are mostly fun people and a few shy ones. Typically at a party I end up drawing all the kids first and then after the adults have had a few drinks they begin to mosey over as well. PS. I mostly love drawing adults, so much more to work with! :D
